Guidelines for Writing in the Cultural Window

Writing in CEIDR blog is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and scientific skills and a space for ideas to meet and interact. We welcome your participation, thinkers, intellectuals, and researchers, and we invite you to publish your articles in tow languages: Arabic and English. Our mission is to meet readers’ interest while adhering to a set of guidelines which ensures the quality of the content and preserves its ethical values. The writing guidelines are as follows:

1- Choosing the Appropriate Topic

  • Research gap: Identifying unanswered or controversial questions, presenting & analyzing it, recommending an action that would make a difference.
  • Cultural Diversity: Focusing on topics that address cultural, literary, and intellectual issues in the fields of science, technology, education, administration, economics…etc.
  • Originality: Presenting a new idea or approaching a certain topic from a new and unconventional perspective.

2- Writing Style

  • Clarity and Simplicity: Using clear and easily understandable language while maintaining the cultural depth of the article.
  • Balance: Combining scientific rigor with literary flair to engage the reader without compromising the content.
  • Reader Engagement: Questioning or using statements that stimulate discussion and encourage reader’s participation.
  • Publishing ethics: Avoiding various approaches such as:
  1. 1) Incitement against others, such as insulting their sect or their nationalism.
  2. 2) Encouraging terrorism, violence, racism, normalization and defamation.
  3. 3) Commercial Content: The article should not serve as promotional material.

3- Content Quality

  • Originality and creativity: Focusing on writer’s own vision and refraining from copying and repeating.
  • Language: Ensuring that the text is free of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Scientific accuracy: Commitment to accuracy when referring to historical events, literary quotations, or any other information by mentioning the source.
  • Coherence: Organizing ideas logically with a clear introduction, coherent content, and a conclusion that summarizes the main points.

4- Documentation

  • When quoting or citing the ideas of others, the source must be cited using the APA method. Documentation takes place in two stages:
  • Stage 1: in the body of the text, by mentioning the family name of the author and the date of publication, for example (Racine, 1999), and in the case of literal quotation, for example: for one page (Foucault, 2001, p.50), for consecutive pages (Voltaire, 1940, pp.12-15) for non-consecutive pages (Sartre, 2024, pp.55,16,10).
  • Stage 2: in the references list: the author’s last name, name, (year of publication). Book title, publishing house. Author, A. A. (Year). Title of the book (edition). Publisher. (Other examples of APA 6th or 7th edition can be found online)

5- Intellectual Property Rights

  • Respecting the rights of authors and not copying texts or images without written permission (if not in the public domain).
  • When publishing the material or part of it, on a website or other means of publication, its source must be mentioned. Example: Quoted from CEIDR website.

6- Appropriate Article form

  • Determining the size of the article between 500 and 1,200 words, sent in Word file form.
  • Focusing on getting the message across without gratuitous tautology and repetition.
  • Choosing a general title that draws attention and accurately expresses the content of the article.
  • Using subtitles and short paragraphs to make the text easier to read and more attractive.
  • Using pictures or illustrations to support the idea when needed.

7- Engagement with Current Issues

  • Contemporary Topics: Addressing modern issues, current events, or recent innovations.
  • Objectivity: Presenting opinions objectively, avoiding clear biases or attacks on any party.

8- Publishing policy of the blog

  • Compatibility of topics and presentation methods with the cultural blog’s policy and vision.
  • Compliance with conditions set by the blog management, such as delivery dates or writing standards.
  • Authors or researchers will be notified of the approval of their works for publication within 2 to 3 weeks, after presenting them to the editorial committee. The committee can ask the author or researcher to make formal or comprehensive amendments to the research before publication.
  • The author of the article sends a brief profile or blurb of himself.
  • The opinions and the ideas published in the blog do not necessarily express the vision and directions of the Institute’s editorial team. It belongs to the author or researcher alone.
